Pre-Twinkle Suzuki Violin Group Class Ideas for Early Suzuki Book 1 and Pre-Twinkle
Here is one Valentine’s day one idea that can be applied in many different ways for younger ones and eventually expanded for older students. Easy to make and a great little game to use at the end of your class or when you feel the kids need something different.
What you need:
Heart shaped paper just like the picture below.
How to make it:
- you can easily make your own.
- or here is a free download with different shapes you can print and use.
Here are some ideas:
Write what you want students to do on every card. Have them draw a card and then complete the task on the card. They can shuffle the cards in from of class. Or each students can get a card. Or have them all in a hat or a bag and each student or parent gets to draw one. There are many ways to make this idea fun for Pre-Twinklers.
This is a fun and easy activity to do not only in your Pre-Twinkle Suzuki group classes but also in your private studio. Say at the last 5 min of your private lesson each student can draw a card with a fun activity or a review piece.

If you are teaching a Suzuki student who is very young and/or cannot stand still, what you can do is separate the lesson into sections.
- they play one song
- then they draw a heart
- do a posture activity
- draw one more heart
- sing the words to a song
- one more heart
- you get the picture…
This is also a fun way to schedule our group classes. Pair every activity you want the student to do with them drawing a card in order to spice up the technical things you want them to drill on.
Write silly things for students to do if you want more fun activity. At the end of a Suzuki group class when you feel they need to do something different shuffle the cards in front of them. They have to do whatever the cards say. Examples can be play on rhythm on open string and then jump, sing the words to Twinkle, etc.
