Beginning of the school year is the time to get to know the students, develop classroom community, and develop a positive working relationships between the students and their teacher. This can be done through many team building activities.
At the very beginning of the school year, there is also a “dead” time during the first week. Students are not ready to begin their regular instruction. Perhaps they are still checking out instruments, books, purchasing their materials, etc. These first days of school are often the most difficult to keep students’ interest. Team building activities can be a great way of filling out this gap.
Many teachers use that time for review, community building and ice-breaking activities.
