Are you looking for Halloween Suzuki violin ideas for your classroom! Here are 4 Suzuki Violin ideas for Halloween your students will enjoy!
There are so many Suzuki violin games and activities for Halloween that spice up the group classes, private lessons and home practice. You can read even more Suzuki violin ideas here. But for this post, here are my favorite ideas:
Ghost Notes (harmonics)
Halloween is a fantastic time to work on soft fingers through teaching harmonics. Have students play a complete piece all in harmonics. For younger students, have them slide a harmonic up and down their fingerboard as a way to work on soft fingers and shaping the left hand. The same activity can be a fantastic shifting technique for older students.
Ghost on Top of the Violin
For Pre-Twinkle students, you can have them make paper ghosts during class. Then the paper ghost go on top of the violins and the students practice keeping their violin straight. Sometimes I use the same activity with toys I find around Halloween, see picture below.
Teach Contact Point with Suzuki Halloween Cards
Halloween is a great time to talk about contact point and different extended techniques. Here is a product that you can use to play a game with contact point.
What do the cards ask students to do:
The students re asked to play with different contact points, thus learning the different ways to hold the bow. Some cards ask the students to play “scratchy”. The cards will look like the picture below:
You can use the cards in different ways:
- you can use them as a part of private lessons. After going over the activities assigned on the cards, simply assign them to the students for home practice.
- You can schedule a Suzuki group class, asking students to play different pieces with different contact points. Then assign the cards to students as a HW.
- During a Suzuki group class, ask the students to be in a circle and place one card in front of each student. Then each student gets to complete the task on the card. This is a great Suzuki group class activity which students would love. It would very well with a small to medium sized class.
You can get the cards here.
Ready Halloween Group Lesson Plan
Well…it wouldn’t get any easier and more fun than having a ready group lesson plan that is completely thought out and you can simply print and use! Especially on a very busy week when you just don’t have any energy for lesson planning!
I have started creating these some time ago. For now I am putting them in the Teachers Pay Teachers page.
This lesson asks the students to play be aware of what their bow and sound by asking them to go to extremes. First they have to play a piece scratchy. Then they have to turn the same piece around and play it with the most beautiful sound and straight bow possible. Students have fun with it!
In addition to the teacher script, they are fun picture cards you can use that look like the ones below:
