Help Your Child Feel Comfortable With Preschool
Familiarity Will Ease Anxiety!
Young children may worry about new situations simply because they are not familiar with them. Developing familiarity is very important. Learning about preschool before your child gets there will develop familiarity with the new environment. It will create the excitement of going to a new place instead of anxiety. How to talk to kids about new adventures in their life? I just finished a post offering some tips on making your child feel comfortable with going back to school where I talked about my most cherished childhood memory. It is when my parents created lots of enthusiasm and familiarity over my going to school for the first time. It made things feel easy for me as a kid.
Use Music to Develop Confidence Through Repetition
One great way to develop familiarity and to prepare your toddler for preschool is using music. Learning through music is so effective when working with young children! The rhythm, rhymes, and repetition of a song help with language development, memory and retaining information. That repetition helps develop the familiarity we need. Children learn through repetition. But music is the vehicle for it. Songs and their rhymes provide repetition in a fun way. When positive messages are repeated, then they become a part of us! Then music becomes a vehicle of teaching children indirectly! It is difficult to say if the music helps the learning in this materials or if learning happens from singing and listening. It is all an integral part of the learning process in these DVDs. So, what can I do to prepare my toddler for preschool? May I introduce a music activity-or rather a DVD with musical activities for your child? This educational product combines all the ideas discussed above. It is a great educational material for a toddler moving to preschool. It can also be used with children who are already in preschool. Your child will be learning valuable skills for their age through music and singing.
Meet the TreeSchoolers
Who are the TreeSchoolers? They are preschoolers from new educational DVD but…they live on a tree! They love to educate through songs! They experience and teach all the necessary skills young children need to know. However, they have a cool surrounding – their school is on top of a tree. By making friends with them your child will be learning the basic emotions and skills they need in preschool. And the extra added benefit is that they will be learning through music! This is a relatively new product. You can now get only the first episode, A Rainy Day. The next two episodes are in the making. Your child will be learning lots. When your child gets to know the TreeScholers, they will be familiarizing themselves with new concepts such as telling time and weather changes. Their emotional intelligence will be developed by learning how to introduce themselves and help others in class. They will also be learning the most important aspects of learning itself-being comfortable with asking questions, reading, and having fun while looking for the answers. As an example, one of the episodes in the DVDs teaches kids that “thunder is less scary when we know about it.” This is also the concept of this post. Knowing about preschool, learning about the transition from preschool to kindergarten makes the process less scary. I find this an excellent tool to use if you want to prepare your toddler for preschool. Many of my friends who are early and elementary music teachers during the year for development of diverse skills through music. I love that you can download a FREE parent or teacher guide to get further familiarized with the material before making a decision.
The Benefits of Using Good Music Products
In this blog I share lots of tips for teachers as well as parenting tips I have learned after working with lots of different parents and their children. The purpose of the blog is not to promote products. However, once in a while if I see a good educational material which I have found helpful, I want to share it with my readers! Music helps children learn in so many ways.
Music, repetition and rhyme go hand in hand. These three components that create the base for kids’ learning. In a previous post we talked in detail about how music and rhyme help a child develop literacy. Using good product that incorporates these elements ensures the growth of your child!
My daycare kids LOVE the Treeschoolers Rainy Day CD/DVD. The music is awesome and even I enjoyed it! If you got the CD w/ your DVD the kids love dancing to it and you'll hear them shouting out the words to the song. Even in the car!

Tina,
Thank you so much for your comment. Yes, the reason I wanted to write about the TreeSchoolers is that when I saw the materials I WAS THE ONE feeling like a kid and wanting to dance and sing along! I think they are very neat. I was hoping to let more parents know about them!
