Why I Blog

I started the blog as a way to help my own students a few years ago. There was a point when some of students were moving to different states due to the economy. They were asking me for tips on how to find a good music teacher after moving. Other parents wanted extra tips on home practice and motivating their child.

So in addition to talking to them personally, I started writing short articles for them. Many of the parents and I discovered that most of the parenting ideas discussed in our lessons apply in general parenting as well. This is how the general parenting category was born.

Later on I discovered the same blog to be a good place to share teaching ideas that have worked for me and find an outlet for sharing my frustrations as well. I work with college students at the University of New Mexico where I am a pedagogy coordinator. Having a spot where I collect and then share my experience has been helpful. The process of having to track back the steps needed to develop a specific skill in my classroom has been incredibly helpful.
